Hello and welcome back to our blog post series on how to make your office more environmentally friendly. In part one, we covered cutting down on paper usage, recycling and saving on electricity which are the ABCs of the way to a greener future. However, because of how important saving our lovely planet is, we’re going to continue this series with a few more helpful reminders on where and how you can save energy, money and the environment.
Because we’re supply some of the best mobile shelves around, we’re all about ways to save and playing environmental super heroes falls right into that category.
In the last post, we covered a lot in terms on how to save electricity, however it’s a big saver so there’s a few other things to think about:
Air Conditioning: If your office has portable or fixed air conditioning, ensure that all doors and windows in all air conditioned rooms are kept closed when the air conditioning is on.
Lighting: If you have banks of three or more light switches, label them in order to identify which lights each switch operates.
Switching off: Draw up a shut-down checklist for any holidays or when the office is closed, and ensure that all staff have been briefed on it.
Do a basic walk-around in order to identify any areas in the office that are being heated unnecessarily and take action to save energy as required.
The method of transport your staff uses to come into work every day can seriously affect the environmental impact your office has on the world. As you’re constantly reminded, cycling might be the best way to travel into work, as it’ll keep you fit as well as get you there on time. You could take it upon yourself to promote this idea to your staff by telling them:
- Where the nearest cycle storage facility is
- Where the nearest shower and changing facility is
- Details of the cycle-to-work scheme, if applicable
And that’s it for our tips on greening up your office, hopefully this means that you can get cracking and help us in the fight to save our planet!
